What Is Direct Marketing?

Direct marketing is a form of communicating an offer, where organizations communicate directly to a pre-selected customer and supply a method for a direct response. Among practitioners, it is also known as direct response marketing. By contrast, advertising is of a mass-message nature.
The above definition could also apply to anyone that targets a certain demographic through social media.

Direct Marketing can be broken down into sub categories such as Direct Sales, Network Marketing, Multi-level Marketing and Affiliate Marketing.  
Direct Selling or Direct Sales refers to earning sales commissions from a supplier through direct contact with your customers in a non retail environment.
In Multi Level Marketing and Network Marketing you earn commissions from sales and from the recruitment of additional salespeople "influencers" creating a down-line of distributors.
